Hartford Wanderers End-of-Season Banquet Recap

Last weekend, the Hartford Wanderers came together at The Officer’s Club of Connecticut for our End-of-Season Banquet, an evening of reflection, camaraderie, and celebration. As we wrapped up another hard-fought season, we took the opportunity to recognize the players who made an outstanding impact on and off the pitch while setting our sights on the future.

Building for 2025

While the Fall season’s results didn’t go our way, the club saw significant individual progress and standout performances that will lay a strong foundation for 2025 and beyond.

  • Brendan Harders and John Kirklin were consistent forces in the forward pack, leading by example throughout the season.
  • Newcomer Jay Topshe made an immediate impact, topping the club’s tackle count while proving to be a dangerous attacking threat.
  • Kyle Powell showcased his versatility, stepping into the backline at short notice late in the season and showing real promise at center.
  • On the 7s circuit, the Wanderers enjoyed a successful summer, capturing several tournament wins with standout performances from Alex Oliver and Frank “Lionhart” Makuch.

Despite the challenges, the grit, determination, and development shown by the squad promise an exciting year ahead. And now onto the awards….

Award Winners

🏆 Captain’s Award – Logan Trafford
Logan’s contributions on and off the pitch were invaluable, setting the tone for commitment and dedication throughout the season. Logan is one of the hardest working players at the club and has continued to improve each season. We look forward to more performances from Logan over the coming years.

🏆 Coaches’ Award – Back of the Year – Conor Madson
A relentless competitor and game-changer, Conor brought heart, grit, and consistency every time he stepped on the field.

🏆 Coaches’ Award – Forward of the Year – Logan Trafford
A dominant presence in the pack, Logan’s tireless work rate was recognized with a second well-earned award.

🏆 Most Improved – Cullen McCaffrey

Cullen has seen tremendous growth in his skills and ability since joining the club and has transitioned from a B side player to a regular starter for the Wanderers. Always willing to push himself, he’s learnt the game quickly and is a dependable player.

🏆 MVP – Backs – Conor Madson

A second award for Conor, given his dependancy at full back, he regularly contributed with try saving tackles and was a constant frustration for the opposition with decisive line breaks.

🏆 MVP – Forwards – Brendan Harders

After an early season injury to Bert, Brendan stepped in at Number 8 and was a regular presence in both attack and defence. Brendan was one of the top ball carriers and tacklers on the team.

🏆 Wandies Award – Alex ‘Bert’ Rushworth

While Bert unfortunately suffered a season ending injured early in the first game of the season, he still attended all practices and games while on crutches and supporting the team throughout the season. A true Wanderer, Bert is one of the most dedicated people to the club and truly deserves the award.

Looking Ahead – Spring Training Kicks Off Soon!

With the banquet behind us, it’s time to get ready for the next challenge. Stay tuned for official training dates!

A huge thank you to our players, coaches, supporters, and sponsors for making this season possible. Your dedication keeps this club thriving, and we can’t wait to get back on the field stronger than ever.

See you at spring training!
