The fields are marked, the bracket is set and tomorrow Hartford will host the opening round of the NERFU 7’s. We are extremely excited for a fun and competitive day in Colt Park with teams across New England.
With the schedule released we’ll highlight at some of the games to look out for and take some time to watch.
Men’s Division: 9:40 Field 3 – Boston vs Worcester
Last year Boston and Worcester competed regularly in the NERFU division and are consistent D2 sides in the fall. Both sides take the 7’s circuit seriously and often have exciting young players in the squads. This is an early game that could remove an early contender in the men’s division.
Women’s Division: 10:00 Field 3 – Springfield vs Cape Cod
Continuing on Field 3, Springfield and Cape Cod are newer teams to 7s but have previously competed together. This should be a closely contested game with squads of equal abilities
Men’s Division: 10:20 Field 3 – Fairfield Yankees vs West Hartford Exiles
Winners of the Worcester 7’s last year, Fairfield put out a youthful squad with many alumni from their successful high school programs in the area. The Exiles, alumni of the West Hartford Blackhearts high school program, have many players who recently competed in the NCR 7’s finals and are one of the favourites for this weekend.
Men’s Division: 10:40 Field 2 – Hartford Wanderers vs Worcester
Last season NERFU champions, Hartford never met Worcester in any tournament however both sides have strong 7’s teams and this should be a competitive, hard hitting game. Often the ‘local’ match for the Wanderers in 15s these sides are very known to one another.
Women’s Division: 11:20 Field 1 – Danbury vs Providence
Danbury, part of the Empire division, often bring a strong side and we expect them to be a contender tomorrow. Providence are also familiar on the 7’s circuit with good experience in 7’s and this will be a good game to watch
Women’s Division: 11:40 Field 2 – Hartford Roses A vs Boston A
This might be the game of the day between two very good 7’s programs. Given this is in the final round we expect the winner will earn a semi final spot in the Cup.
7’s season is upon us and while we expect these games will be nail biters, 7’s is known to be full of upsets and we look forward to seeing all sides competing with the chance to win the Hartford cup.
Games will be held at Colt Park and kick off at 8:40am with the final game to be played at 2:40pm. Be sure to come down!
